Rhinoplasty Recovery (Nose Job Healing)
Rhinoplasty Recovery Timeline
Recovery after Rhinoplasty is
not a bump less road, but you will not be in huge
amounts of pain, or at least you shouldn’t be. Everyone’s recovery
following rhinoplasty is specific to their exact surgery but in general the
patient experiences a little amount of pain for 24-48 hours and you may have
a headache. In this time plan on staying in bed with your head elevated.
Before your surgery, Dr Simoni's
nurse will give you a prescription for pain medication. Have it filled
because you’ll want it handy immediately.
Over the course of the first day, and for several days after that, the swelling and bruising will increase. Black eyes after rhinoplasty are not unusual.
Bruising After Rhinoplasty, Swelling After Nose Job
Applying cold compresses around (but not directly to) your nose will reduce the swelling and make you feel better.
Even in the worst cases the bruising after is usually gone by a week after the rhinoplasty surgery. Dr Simoni usually recommends Arnica pills prior to rhinoplasty to lessen the bruising and swelling. However, do not take anything else without first consulting with him.
You may still see some bruising after the first two weeks but
they should not be very noticeable.
Nose Bleeding After Rhinoplasty
You will probably feel stuffy for a few days after your
rhinoplasty and you may have some bloody nasal discharge. Small amounts of blood
are normal and should not alarm you. Any sustained bleeding and/or large amounts
of blood are of concern though and in this case you need to notify
Dr payman Simoni immediately. If
you feel stuffy You may blow your nose very gently.
Return to Work After Rhinoplasty (Rhinoplasty Downtime)
After about 7 days the nasal cast that is in place will be
removed and you can return to work. Your nasal breathing will continue to
improve for several weeks.
Most patients plan to take about a week off from work and other major
activities. You will usually have a cast on your nose so regardless if you feel
able to work after just a few days you probably wont want to be seen with the
cast on. Some patients will work from home while others are brave enough to go
to work with the cast on.
Once the cast is taken off you will look presentable 1 to 2 weeks after the
surgery. You can wash your face gently. You can put on make-up after surgery.
