Plastic Surgery Graduation Presents: Nose jobs and Breast Implants Top Lists
The Daily reported that the number of breast implants among teenagers has soared by 200 percent over the past 10 years. Plastic Surgeons performed over 23,000 breast implants last year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
In 2011, the most requested plastic surgery procedure was rhinoplasty — a nosejob — with 33,000 surgeries. Breast surgery came second, and interestingly about 14,400 of the cases were boys with enlarged breasts, known as gynecomastia.
Dr. Simoni has seen the number of rhinoplasties quadruples around graduation time.
To recommend rhinoplasty to a teen, Dr Simoni looks at the teen’s physical and emotional maturity, checking the credentials of a surgery. It is important for a teen to reach a brain maturity to understand the risks of a procedure and the expected recovery time.
